Potential for a deadly tsunami on the horizon in Jakarta is significant following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. The Indonesian capital is on high alert mere minutes after being alerted to the quake that occurred just shy of 150 kilometers offshore.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) ranked the earthquake at a 6.8, which though less severe than a 7.4, is still more than capable of producing deadly tsunamis. Officials have warned residents of Pandeglang in Banten and West Lampung to be ready for up to a 3 meter rise in water levels, should a tsunami reach the shores.
